Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was keeping his promises when he sent 50 migrant immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard earlier this week.

Florida’s governor has joined other state governors in declaring they are NOT sanctuary states and not to send illegal immigrants to them. The federal government has repeatedly ignored their requests, sending buses and planeloads of people to their states instead of the designated “sanctuary cities and states” that have stated they are ready to receive them. The 50 immigrants were sent to Florida. Martha’s Vineyard had declared itself a sanctuary, so DeSantis sent the immigrants there, after offering facilities to clean up, change clothes, get haircuts, and be fed. DeSantis states he also gave the folks information about where they were going and how to connect to the government agencies, as well as having them sign a waiver that they knew where they were going.

Martha’s Vineyard called in the National Guard to escort the 50 persons off the island and sent them to another city on the mainland.

The numbers of immigrants that the border states and small towns near the border are dealing with is staggering; Border Patrol officers are reportedly logging 8,000 encounters a day, the highest number in U.S. history.

DeSantis has been criticized by liberals for backing up his promise with action, calling it a “stunt”.

A sheriff in Bexar County, Texas, a liberal county, has even opened a criminal investigation into the charter flight, calling DeSantis’ move a “luring” of the migrants.

The migrants that the Florida Gov. had requested not be sent to his state.

Monday night Sherriff Javier Salazar said in a news release that his office is investigating whether the migrants were victims of crimes:

“The Bexar County Sherriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the migrants that were lured from the Migrant Resource Center, located in Bexar County, TX, and flown to Florida, where they were ultimately left to fend for themselves in Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

Additionally, we are working with private attorneys who are representing the victims, as well as advocacy organizations regarding this incident.

We are also preparing to work with any federal agencies that have concurrent jurisdiction, should the need arise.”

Sean Hannity interviewed Gov. DeSantis on Monday night during his Fox News show, his first interview since the hoopla erupted over the migrants arriving in the Vineyard.

During the interview DeSantis pointed out the irony and “nonsense” of accusing him of transporting the illegal immigrants.

“Millions of people since Biden’s been president illegally coming across the southern border. Do they freak out about that? No. You had migrants die in the Rio Grande. You had 50 die in Texas in a trailer because they were being neglected. Was there a freak out about that?” Desantis asked Hannity.

“It’s only when 50 get put into Martha’s Vineyard, which wasn’t saying they didn’t want this. they said they wanted this, they said they were a sanctuary jurisdiction,” DeSantis said. “Not only did they not welcome them, they deported them the next day with the National guard.”

DeSantis noted that his state also gave the migrants maps and directions regarding where to go once they reached the sanctuary destination.

“So it was clearly voluntary, and all the other nonsense you’re hearing is just not true,” he stated to Hannity.

In the interview, DeSantis referred to the outrage over the flights in question being referred to as “virtue signaling” and said the real ‘virtue signaling” and “stunt” has been the Biden Administration’s cancelling of the successful initiatives President Trump has put in place to control the border, which has given birth to the massive numbers exploding into the U.S.

He stated that the politicization of the border issue means voters need to go to the polls and vote to reinstate successful measures.

Hannity noted that under Trump, our border was controlled, to which DeSantis replied that voting is the answer.

“We want solutions as Americans” DeSantis stated, “so we can get control over what’s happening down there.”

DeSantis called Martha’s Vineyard’s claim to be a sanctuary city to be “virtue signaling.”

Reflecting on the number of people sent to Martha’s Vineyard, 50, DeSantis pointed out,” Have they lived up to what they billed themselves as: a sanctuary jurisdiction? They could have absorbed these people without a problem.”

DeSantis’ office released a statement Tuesday morning:

Immigrants have been more than willing to leave Bexar County after being abandoned, homeless, and ‘left to fend for themselves.’ Florida gave them an opportunity to seek greener pastures in a sanctuary jurisdiction that offered greater resources for them, as we expected. Unless the MA national guard has abandoned these individuals, they have been provided accommodations, sustenance clothing, and more options to succeed following their unfair enticement into the United states, unlike the 53 immigrants who died in a truck found abandoned in Bexar County this June.”
