An advocate for civil rights in Los Angeles has criticized Manhattan District advocate Alvin Bragg for using the “race card” when charging the Marine who reportedly choked a threatening homeless man.
Jordan Neely, 30, died, and Daniel Penny, 24, was charged on Thursday with second-degree manslaughter in his death. If found guilty, he may spend up to 15 years in prison.

A homeless man named Neely who was allegedly harassing and threatening other passengers was restrained earlier this month by Penny, a Marine Corps veteran.
However, the chokehold Penny applied proved lethal, and Neely’s death was classified as a homicide.
Left-wing protestors instantly seized on the situation and compared Neely’s passing to that of George Floyd.

A vigil for Jordan Neely that was intended to be peaceful turned chaotic on Monday.
According to the NYPD, they detained 11 people after discovering a Molotov cocktail among the crowd.
Protesters question the lack of arrest for the former military who choked Neely.
Many others, however, also defended Penny, and a GiveSendGo fundraiser raised more than $1 million to cover his legal expenses.
On Friday, civil rights lawyer Leo Terrell weighed in on Penny’s situation and claimed that the accusations against him are racially and politically motivated.
During his appearance on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” Terrell denounced Alvin Bragg as a “far-left” district attorney who had made the Marine available to the public as a “sacrificial lamb.”
“The big question, Martha, is why – why the Marine and not the other individuals who helped him?” Terrell asked, according to Fox. “I mean, why weren’t they charged for anything? They weren’t charged at all.”
Bragg, he said, is using “the classic ‘we want to play the race card’ situation.”
“You can’t ignore the fact that this Marine is white. You can’t ignore the fact that the victim is black,” Terrell said.
The fact that 27 additional persons killed in the subway but did not receive the same attention was also mentioned by him.
“This is the ugliest of the race card being played. And this Marine is being the sacrificial lamb. And I find it offensive,” Terrell said, Fox reported.
He was then shown a video of Neely’s family attorney Lennon Edwards asking how someone could be “assaulted for fifteen minutes straight and never receive any help.”
“The MTA needs to answer for that,” Edwards said.
In response, “Chicago, [Los Angeles], New York – there’s a common thread. A black mayor running these cities. And yet there’s a problem with getting these types of mental services to these individuals? No, they’re being ignored … The minority community is being ignored by people who are running the city.”
