It’s A New Record For Greg Gutfeld In The Cable News Ratings

Greg Gutfeld has always been a popular personality on Fox News, known for his sharp wit and unapologetic conservative views. But when he launched his own late-night comedy show in 2015, many were skeptical about how well it would perform.

However, Gutfeld’s show quickly became a hit, and according to the latest report, it’s been seeing some impressive ratings.

Gutfeld’s success is particularly impressive given the competitive landscape of late-night television. He’s literally going up against Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel, two of the biggest names in late-night, and he’s beating them.

“Gutfeld!, brought in 2.2 million total viewers on Tuesday night, beating its lead-in, The Ingraham Angle. Roseanne Barr joined Gutfeld! as a guest,” according to Mediaite.

Gutfeld! was the 6th highest-rated show overall on cable news in total viewers and the 3rd highest-rated in the key 25-54 age demographic — behind Tucker Carlson and The Five — which was co-hosted by Greg Gutfeld.

In the 11 p.m. hour, Gutfled! [sic] crushed its cable news competition as CNN brought in only 371,000 total viewers and MSNBC scored 972,000.

Through 2022, Gutfeld! had an average audience of 2.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

“The size of that viewing audience bests both NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’ and ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and also consistently trumps such cable rivals as Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ and HBO’s ‘Last Week Tonight’ and ‘Real Time With Bill Maher,’” according to Nielsen.

“Vox, known to be more of a liberal news organization, opined that “The biggest comedy show on late-night right now is not on ABC or NBC or CBS or Fox. It’s not on Comedy Central. It’s certainly not streaming. It’s on Fox News, and its name is ‘Gutfeld!,’”” reported Conservative Brief.

CNN is reportedly working on its own late-night show to compete with Gutfeld, examining more progressive candidates for the job.

“Brass at the famously progressive news network have reportedly floated names such as Bill Maher, Trevor Noah, Arsenio Hall, and Jon Stewart, as candidates, to offer a nontraditional, late-night-esque take on the day’s news. Fox News has found success with ‘Gutfeld!,’ the late-night comedy show hosted by Greg Gutfeld,” according to the Daily Mail.

“But Gutfeld has been a ratings champion for Fox News with “The Five,” a show he cohosts, as the top show in cable news, Nielsen said. In January, the comedian and political analyst managed to win two of the top three shows on cable news in the key 25-54 age demographic, The Brief added.

The Five, of which Gutfeld is a permanent co-host, topped the charts in the demo with 448,000 demo viewers, Mediate reported. Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson landed in second place with 407,000 demo viewers, while Gutfeld! came in third with 379,000.

According to Nielsen ratings, the show attracted 3.332 million viewers during the week ending January 22nd, making it the most-watched cable news show.

“After The Five, the highest-rated shows of the week were Tucker Carlson Tonight (3.086 million viewers), Jesse Watters Primetime (2.647 million viewers), Hannity (2.386 million viewers), and Special Report with Bret Baier (2.367 million viewers)—all airing on the Fox News Channel,” Forbes reported.

“In prime time, Fox News led the cable news networks with an average total audience of 1.996 million viewers—beating CNN and MSNBC combined. Overall, Fox had fully 92 of the 100 highest-rated cable news telecasts for the week. Among viewers 25-54, the demographic group most valued by advertisers, Tucker Carlson Tonight was first with 442,000 viewers, followed by The Five (374,000 viewers), Hannity (303,000 viewers), Jesse Watters Primetime (266,000 viewers) and Special Report with Bret Baier (256,000 viewers).”

There is no network that comes close to Fox News’ dominance of cable news ratings with Tucker Carlson as its most prominent anchor. In Wednesday’s ratings, it took first place again, bringing more than three million viewers to four of its shows while CNN fell short of one million.

“Tucker Carlson led the ratings with 3.72 million total viewers, beating out The Five — which regularly lands atop the charts. Jesse Watters came in third place with 3.16 million total viewers, while Sean Hannity came in fourth with 3.08 million total viewers. MSNBC’s top-rated show was All in with Chris Hayes which brought in 1.66 million total viewers,” according to Mediaite.

As for the 25 – 54 demographic, Fox News continued to lead the day with 246,000 viewers with MSNBC coming in second with 113,000 viewers and CNN coming in third with 104,000 viewers.

Fox News led the way in primetime with 421,000 viewers, a considerable margin over MSNBC and CNN with 148,000 and 139,000 viewers.

“Last week, Fox News host Dan Bongino got some big news after it was revealed his show reigned supreme in the ratings. A new report from Ad Week found that Bongino’s show on Saturday night was the most-watched primetime show in all of the cable news,” Conservative Brief added.

But back to Gutfeld. His success is no doubt due in part to his unique blend of humor and politics. This appeals to conservative viewers who feel alienated by the overwhelmingly liberal slant of mainstream comedy.

Gutfeld! is a testament to the power of conservative humor and the enduring appeal of common sense values. With ratings like these, it’s clear that he’s struck a chord with viewers across the country.
