Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, asserts that the claims against Joe Biden and his son Hunter have undergone a major upheaval.
Jordan said “something is up” with the investigation because many of the same media outlets have recently taken an interest in the story after initially dismissing reports of illicit activity evidence derived from documents and emails found on a laptop Hunter allegedly abandoned at a Delaware computer maintenance shop in 2019.
“Well, what happened to that is you had 51 intelligence officers sign a letter saying that this Hunter Biden story was Russian misinformation when it wasn’t, and that changed — I think anyone can make a credible argument that that altered the outcome of the election and we no longer have Donald Trump in the White House because he was doing that, he was pushing back on China for the first time. And now, we have Joe Biden there and it’s exactly the opposite direction,” Jordan declared.
“So that’s what happened. That’s why this is all connected because the influence of big media, big tech, and big government in impacting our election — I think we said this last week, Sean. My colleagues had this in the committee a few weeks ago, Matt Gaetz. He said, when will the FBI stay out of elections and let us, the people, decide? In 2016, they went after Trump’s campaign, 2018, it was a Mueller investigation, 2020, they suppressed the Hunter Biden story, 2022, 91 days before the midterm election, they raid his home, and now, just two weeks ago, three days after he announces for the 2024 race, they name a special counsel and it’s not just anybody, it’s Jack Smith and the record that he has of weaponizing the government to go after the people,” Jordan went on.
“It sure looks like Joe Biden was involved,” Jordan added. “So, my, how this story has changed. And now, we find out these text messages and emails that link the entire family, not just Hunter and Joe and — but also uncle, the — Joe’s brother, James Biden, is involved in this as well.”
The acts of the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office in relation to the unusual indictment of former President Trump are the subject of a wider investigation by the House Judiciary Committee.
Requesting a transcript of the interview, Jordan wrote to Senior Counsel Matthew Colangelo at Bragg’s Office.
After years of going after the former president at the Department of Justice and the New York attorney general’s office, Colangelo was reportedly recruited on board to “jump start” investigations into Trump, according to a December NY Times article.
“Given your history of working for law-enforcement entities that are pursuing President Trump and the public reporting surrounding your decision to work for the New York County District Attorney’s Office, we request your cooperation with our oversight in your personal capacity,” Jordan told him.
“During an unprecedented arraignment on Tuesday, Trump pleaded not guilty to a 34-count felony indictment that carries a maximum prison sentence of 136 years. The charges are related to hush-money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016, a case that prosecutors had previously declined to pursue,” the Conservative Brief reported.
Despite the charges, a group of twelve liberal law professors and Trump critics have deemed the prosecution a dead end, citing the weak nature of the case, the outlet noted.
After getting stiff resistance from Bragg’s office regarding oversight requests, Jordan reminded Colangelo in his letter of Congress’s power to investigate his office.
The Supreme Court has recognized that Congress has a ‘broad and indispensable’ power to conduct oversight, which ‘encompasses inquiries into the administration of existing laws, studies of proposed laws, and surveys in our social, economic or political system for the purpose of enabling Congress to remedy them,’” the letter explained.
“Rule X of the Rules of the House of Representatives authorizes the Committee on the Judiciary to conduct oversight of criminal justice matters to inform potential legislation. Congress has a specific and manifestly important interest in preventing politically motivated prosecutions of current and former Presidents,” the letter continued.
Fox News reported that the committee is now considering subpoenaing Bragg’s office as a result of the ongoing argument.
A federal judge slapped Bragg last week for his confrontation with Jordan.
According to ABC News, Bragg decided not to challenge the judge’s ruling and will permit Pomerantz to appear before Jordan’s committee.
On Friday night, after hearing from Bragg’s office that they had reached an understanding with the committee, the decision was made to withdraw the appeal.
“Our successful stay of this subpoena blocked the immediate deposition and afforded us the time necessary to coordinate with the House Judiciary Committee on an agreement that protects the District Attorney’s privileges and interests. We are pleased with this resolution, which ensures any questioning of our former employee will take place in the presence of our General Counsel on a reasonable, agreed upon timeframe,” A representative from his office stated.
