The Kansas City Chiefs, who are the current Super Bowl champions, were guests at the White House on Monday. Harrison Butker, the ace kicker for the Chiefs who kicked the game-winning field goal in the Big Game in February, brought his pro-life activism and faith to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC.
Butker, a devoted Catholic, wore a tie that was specially created for him and included the Latin phrase “Vulnerari Praesidio,” which means “Protect the Most Vulnerable,” in it. Additionally, he sported a lapel badge that showed the size of small baby feet at barely ten weeks’ gestation. Live Action, a charity started by well-known pro-life activist Lila Rose, produced the pro-life accessory.

As the winner of this year’s Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs were invited to the White House by President Joe Biden. Biden, a baptized and professing Catholic has been outspoken on his support for abortion and the Biden Administration has been the most pro-abortion administration in our nation’s history.
Harrison Butker, who kicked the game winning field goal, used the visit to the White House as an opportunity to highlight the forgotten of our society by partnering with LIVE ACTION in creating a custom tie that he wore with his suit. With the words, “protect the most vulnerable” written in Latin, and a baby feet lapel pin, Butker made a powerful message to the world.
“I want to give the most vulnerable, the unborn, a voice at a place where every effort has been made to allow and normalize the tragic termination of their lives,” said Butker the day after the White House visit.
Butker continued stating, “As a father who has experienced three miscarriages, my wife and I understand the hardships that come with losing a child. Every life is precious and should be valued whether outside or inside the womb.”
The two-time Super Bowl champion’s message has never been to the White House, but his advocacy for religion is not new. When the score was 35-35 in February, Butker secured the Vince Lombardi trophy and the Chiefs won the NFL Super Bowl for the second time in three years. During the winning kick, many social media users could see that Butker was wearing a scapular, a religious accessory.

Butker promptly utilized his platform to praise God after winning the Big Game for his colleagues and Chiefs Kingdom supporters all across the world. Butker stated in a post-game interview:
I wouldn’t have been able to get through this season if it wasn’t for my faith in God and to be able to trust in Him and know that He’s got a plan. And, you know I’m just thankful that His plan was for that ball to go through and for us to win the game.

A season-opening injury suffered at State Farm Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals was one among the challenges that Butker relied on his faith to get through. Andy Reid, the adored head coach of the Chiefs, attributed the two injuries sustained by Chiefs players to the game’s loose turf on the team’s recently reseeded field. After suffering an ankle injury on his plant foot, Butker returned to the game and converted a 54-yard field goal while Justin Reid took over for the special teams on other plays. Butker wouldn’t make his way back to the field until week six.
Butker missed a field goal in the Super Bowl, which was played at State Farm Stadium. Butker’s challenge in the final game of the year was the same field that broke his ankle in the first game of the year. As the Philadelphia Eagles had come out and scored first, forcing KC to pull off a come-from-behind chase, Butker missed the kick with the score level in the first quarter. The Chiefs’ one and only chance to take the lead in the first half was a failed field goal, which is disappointing for the fans but also upsetting for a player who is already under fire.
He is the franchise record holder, a superb player, and a reliable kicker. It was heartbreaking to think that his missed Super Bowl kick would be the only thing future football watchers remembered him for, but God had other plans for Butker.
