Lori Lightfoot has been branded a ‘disgrace’ by Chicago police for allowing the city to become a ‘death zone’ after murders soared to a 25-year high.

A video posted on Facebook by Keith Thornton Jr. on Christmas Eve ripped into Lightfoot and Superintendent David Brown for failing to support the police force.

A number of his officers have texted him that they are scared, and he said he felt compelled to speak out. It’s scary for them to be out there alone in the 16th District by themselves since they have no backing.

Thornton reported that officers in the district, which is in the northwest of the city, were so shorthanded they weren’t able to respond to 911 calls from the area.

There were ‘attacks on women’, stabbings and shootings. This wasn’t petty crime, he said.

‘A shooting came up a few days ago and we couldn’t even get a unit over there. A unit could not even get to that scene until 10 plus minutes later because there was no one,’ Thornton told viewers.

Three people were killed and 22 seriously wounded in the shootings during Chicago’s bloody Christmas weekend.

The number of homicides in a city of 2.7 million people is at a 25-year high, with 793 reported so far. In contrast, New York City, with more than eight million residents, has had 479 murders to date.

Giovanni Lozano, 24, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in Logan Square on Chicago’s Northwest Side at 10:40pm on Christmas Day.

In East Garfield Park, Clifford Jeffrey, 37, was shot and killed at 3:20pm on December 26. Then, on Monday, a 30-year-old man was shot to death on the Southwest Side of Chicago as he walked on the sidewalk. His identity is unknown.

Rather than commenting on the carnage in Chicago, Lightfoot posted a video wishing residents a happy Kwanzaa – the month-long celebration originating in 1966 among African Americans and Pan-Africans.

As Thornton pointed out, the city’s mayor was selfish and oblivious to crime-ridden neighborhoods or the police.

‘I’m hot about it because this mayor does not care about Chicago police officers, period. She doesn’t care about any first responders. She does not care about the d*** city. It doesn’t matter if you’re white, black, Asian, Hispanic, other, straight, gay, Democrat, or Republican. She don’t even care about her city workers. All that lady cares about is her f***ing self,’ Thornton ranted.

”And I pray you’re watching this because you’re a disgrace and I’m tired of it,’ he said, directing his words at Lightfoot. ‘And your city is tired of it. Matter of fact, it’s not your city. The city of Chicago is tired of it.’

‘And I know you don’t like me, and that’s OK, because I love you,’ he added, ‘but I’m tired of you because you’re an absolute disgrace to everyone within the city.’

His final statement in the video stated that the ‘city is burning’ and that it was time to ‘wake up’ and ‘do something.

Thornton offered to meet with city officials, saying: ‘We’ve got to come together for our area because this is bull s***.’

Thornton, who grew up in Chicago, has worked as a police dispatcher since April 2018, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Prior to the CPD he worked for the Los Angeles Police Department and in medical services in California and the Philippines.

The most recent Chicago police department data, from the week of December 13-19, shows murders 50 percent up year-on-year.

The rate of criminal sexual assault was up 132 percent, robbery rose 74 percent and theft was up 51 percent.

Christmas came and went without any respite.

As reported by the Chicago Tribune on Monday, Austin, located on the city’s West Side, was the most dangerous neighborhood in 2021.

In second and third place, respectively, were North Lawndale and Greater Grand Crossing, with slightly over half the number of murders committed in Austin.

Gunfire is likely to have claimed the lives of most of the victims who were young, black, and male.

Among the 793 victims, 314 were between the ages of 20 and 29, and 202 were between 30 and 39.

Blacks made up 647 of the total.
