As a result of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the hacker group Anonymous has declared ‘cyber war’ against his government.

On Thursday evening, the elusive computer experts posted a message on their Twitter account.

They announced shortly before 10 p.m.: ‘The Anonymous collective is officially in cyber war against the Russian government.’

Within 30 minutes, they announced that RT’s news website had been taken down, a channel backed by the Kremlin that broadcasts in Britain and has been heavily criticized.

The site was still inaccessible this morning, and only displayed a message that said, ‘this site can’t be reached’.

In a tweet, Anonymous said about RT: ‘The #Anonymous collective has taken down the website of the #Russian propaganda station RT News.’

Anonymous also said that they had taken down the Russian Ministry of Defense website as well as the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia (FAS Russia) site.

In the past, Anonymous has targeted groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and Islamic extremists.

Members are referred to as ‘Anons,’ and they wear Guy Fawkes masks.

Tesla founder Elon Musk was warned by the collective that they plan to target him last year after he wields too much influence over cryptocurrency exchanges.

There is a risk that Russia could be targeted for systematic hacking attempts in the coming days following the cyberwar declaration.

Several days before the invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, Ukraine’s government and banks were attacked by a massive cyberattack believed to be initiated by Russia.

Twitter users reacted positively to Anonymous’ cyberwar declaration against Putin.

One Twitter user responded: ‘Once again, Anonymous are the heroes this world often doesn’t deserve, but needs.’

Another said: ‘You re amazing, carry on and stay safe!!’

A third person wrote: ‘THANK YOU! I love you! The most beautiful thing EVER…’

Hackers associated with the group have appeared to be targeting governments around the world in response to policies they disagree with.

As a result of the group’s hacking campaigns against government agencies, child pornography sites, and the Klu Klux Klan, they are seen as everything from digital Robin Hoods to cyber terrorists.

As part of its ‘Project Chanology,’ the online community staged a series of protests, pranks, and hacks targeting Church of Scientology.

An extended list of targets of Anonymous’ ‘hacktivism’ includes government agencies such as the US, Israel, Japan, Tunisia, Uganda, copyright protection agencies, the Westboro Baptist Church, PayPal, MasterCard, Visa, and Sony.

In 2013, they broke up secretive ‘chat sites’ where pedophiles traded images.

It was last November that a Twitter account belonging to the Ku Klux Klan was hacked after it distributed flyers threatening ‘lethal force’ against protesters in Ferguson.

In countries like the U.S., UK, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, and Turkey, dozens of people have been arrested for involvement with Anonymous cyberattacks.

Earlier this week, former President Trump weighed in on Russia’s attack on Ukraine stating that China’s Xi would order the invasion of Taiwan next because Biden is weak.

As a result of the feckless leadership of Joe Biden, Trump claimed ‘China’s going to be next’ in attacking Taiwan. He cited Vladimir Putin’s aggression toward Ukraine as the reason for this.

According to Trump, Putin’s ‘genius’ idea to send so-called peacekeepers to Ukraine would not have happened if he had been president, adding: ‘Had I been in office, not even thinkable. This would never have happened.’

Putin’s move has emboldened China’s president, Xi Jinping, according to an interview Trump gave on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show on Tuesday.

‘China’s going to be next,’ he said on the podcast.

‘You know, China is gonna —’

Suddenly, Travis interrupts him and asks: ‘You think they’re gonna go after Taiwan?’

Trump replied: ‘Oh, absolutely. Not with me, they wouldn’t have.

‘They’re waiting ’til after the Olympics. Now the Olympics ended, and look at your stopwatch, right?

‘It’s almost like twin sisters right here because you have one that wants Taiwan, I think, equally badly. Somebody said, ‘Who wants it more?’ I think probably equally badly.’

Trump added that if he was in the White House, ‘Putin would have never done it, and Xi would have never done it.’

Chinese policy towards Taiwan’s self-ruled island is to treat it as a breakaway province that must recognize Chinese sovereignty, and Beijing has never renounced using force to achieve its objective.

As stipulated by the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, the United States must provide Taiwan with means of self-defense, but it is intentionally ambiguous about whether the U.S. will come to Taiwan’s aid if attacked.

Taiwan, whose government says it wants peace but will defend itself if attacked, has faced increased military and diplomatic pressure from China in the past two years.

Taiwan is regularly cited as the most important and sensitive issue in China’s relationship with the United States, which is also strained due to disputes over trade and human rights.

Russian forces are reportedly inside Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv and battling Ukrainian forces.
